Occupational Therapist Assistant — Houston, TX
About the Role
As a Houston OTA, you carry out OT plans of care, document visits in our EMR, and stay in active communication with supervising OTs. - Document patient visits in our proprietary EMR on the day of service
- Maintain active communication with OTs through shared notes and case calls
- Educate caregivers on routines, transfers, and daily-living strategies
- Progress patients through OT plans while escalating clinical questions promptly
- Cover patients across assigned Houston sub-areas
- Participate in team in-services and annual competencies
Requirements
- Active Texas Occupational Therapist Assistant license
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Reliable transportation and valid Texas driver’s license with clean MVR
- Minimum 1 year clinical experience preferred
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Comfortable with mobile EMR on phone or tablet
Why Universal Rehab in Houston
We're an OT-founded company, which means OTAs here get real clinical partnership, not just task delegation. Your supervising OT is reachable, the EMR actually works, and the patient population keeps your skills varied. That matters when you're delivering hands-on occupational therapy care out in the community all day.
What OTA Work Looks Like in Houston
Houston's sheer size means your days are mobile. Morning ADL retraining in Clear Lake, afternoon hand-therapy home exercise with a stroke patient in Memorial, then a pediatric-home-health visit up in Spring. Houston-area home-health work draws from the metro's major medical systems plus community-based and agency programs across the IDD and pediatric space. Texas Medical Center discharge volume alone drives a steady flow of post-acute OT cases across the metro. OTAs who want variety find plenty of it here.
Schedule, Pay, and Benefits
- Flexible full-time, part-time, or per-diem schedules
- Weekly payroll with direct deposit and transparent per-visit rates
- Dedicated supervising OT you'll actually build a working relationship with
- Proprietary mobile EMR that respects your time
- Geographic sub-area assignments you help choose
- Active referral incentive program for clinicians on payroll
